MR. & MRS. BULUSAN, SORSOGON - MM SEARCH IS ON

After the successful Post-Valentine Dinner and Ballroom Dance Party in Manila last February 22, Ms. Luz Z. Gamba, chair of the Special Project Committee of Damayan-Buluseño, Inc. announced that they are now in search of candidates for the Mr. & Mrs. Bulusan, Sorsogon – Metro-Manila 2003 which will be launched in May.

According to Ms. Gamba, to make it more glamorous and classy, the coronation ceremonies will be held in one of the prestigious hotels in Metro-Manila.  The occasion will be culmination of the yearly “Pista sa Maynila” celebration of Buluseños in honor of their Patron Saint, St. James the Greater, she added.

She hopes Buluseño couples would be encouraged to join this contest as it is for a worthy cause.  Its proceeds will go to the various civic and humanitarian projects in Bulusan.  As it is widely known among Buluseños elsewhere and other Sorsogueños, DBI has been actively involved in many undertakings for the past years, she explained.

When the line-up is completed, the date and venue of the presentation of candidates will be announced through this Gazette.

OFFICERS INDUCTED

The solemn induction ceremony which was witnessed by a big crowd of Buluseños was officiated by Rev. Fr. Ariel Lustan who has been the regular celebrant of the monthly mass of the association for several months now.

Inducted were: Rogelio F. Fuentes-President; Luz Z. Gamba-1st Vice-President; Pablito R. Freo-2nd Vice-President; Andrew D. Espedido-Secretary; Linda Gapan-Mole-Asst. Secretary; Leticia G. Tenazas-Treasurer; Zoraida G. Lim-Asst. Treasurer; Arnel G. Fortes-Auditor; Rolando Bañares-Business Manager; Rufo O. Fuentes-Asst. Business Manager; Augusto G. Frades (who is also Chair of the Youth Affairs Committee); Ulpiano Sorra (who is also Chair of the Religious Affairs Committee), Leonor Furiscal-Peñalosa (Chair of the Sunshine Committee), and Marichu Fuentes Arellano (Chair of the Social and Cultural Affairs Committee).

In a brief speech immediately after the induction, DBI President, Rogelio F. Fuentes thanked God for all the blessings He bestowed upon the association for the past twenty years.  He also praised Fr. Lustan for his untiring spiritual support for the last several months of their gathering.

He also expressed his gratitude to the past officers and to all Buluseños for their active participations in all the projects and activities of the association in Metro-Manila and in Bulusan.

To the newly inducted fellow officers he urged them to religiously perform their duties and responsibilities which they have sworn to uphold before the altar and witnessed by hundreds of fellow Buluseños.  He also told them that being an officer of the DBI must be taken seriously for the sake of their hometown and townmates.

According to Mr. Fuentes, with the new set of officers, the association can expect to restore its old glory as it was during its early years.

K OF C ORGANIZED IN BULUSAN

A group of Knights of Columbus, under the leadership of Grand Knight Peter Henry G. Gallanosa, all of Council 12499 of St. Michael the Archangel, Irosin, Sorsogon, together with some members of the K of C of Sts. Peter and Paul, Sorsogon City, visited Bulusan in July 2002.  They met with Holy Namers where they explained the mechanics of organizing the K of C.

Another meeting was made in August and by September 8, 2002, eight Bulusanon were exemplified as members of the K of C Council 12499.

By October 20, another exemplification was made for 32 members and finally on December 1, ten more were admitted.  With a total of 50 members, the Supreme Council granted Bulusanon a council number 13265 under St. James, the Greater, Bulusan, Sorsogon.

As of date, Bulusan is waiting for a proper time for chartering.  In the meantime, the monthly meeting is with council 12499.

Congratulations to the pioneer members! This is another venue for men, like the Holy Name Society – for their personal growth and development in religiosity.  JGG

CALLING ALL JSRMI ALUMNI

Capt. Luis F. Frayna, President of the Jose S. Reyes Memorial Institute (formerly Bulusan Institute) Alumni Association, is calling all its members and inviting them to a general meeting on Black Saturday, April 19, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. at the Clubhouse of the Villa Luisa Celeste Resort at Barangay Dancalan, Bulusan.

According to Capt. Frayna, the purpose of this meeting is to discuss plans of the association for the welfare of its members and their Alma Mater.

Capt. Frayna urges all members to come and share their ideas on how to strengthen their association and be of help in enhancing the service and image of the institution that gave them the foundation of what they are today.

The JSRMI which was Bulusan Institute when it was established in 1950, has produced thousands of graduates many of whom are now successful in their chosen fields of endeavor here in the country and abroad.

Capt. Frayna expects a big turnout in this meeting as many Buluseños will be coming home for the Holy Week.

NO BUSES FOR DAMAYAN HOMECOMING

Buluseños who will be going home for the Holy Week are advised to commute or travel on their own as no buses will be chartered by Damayan-Buluseño, Inc for their trip this time.  This is because the Bulusan Central School Alumni Homecoming & Damayan 2003 is deferred to year 2005 to give way to school’s centennial celebration.

As announced earlier, the civic action will be the only activity of DBI Lenten Season
