                 BAGAMAN mamunduon an mga pangyayari, nagbunga na an mga ibinulgar ko dini sa Gazette. Salamat sa mga nakabasa na komporme sa mga sinusurat na puro man totoo. Siguro makokonsensya na an mga tinamaan lalo na an mga sangkot sa maati-on na pulitika nan illegal logging na sinasabotahe pa an pagrasyon sini na Gazette para diri mabasa san mga tawo an mga artikulo ko.

                PAGKALIPAS sin sobra 300 anyos na pang-aabuso nan pang-aapi sa mga Pilipino nan pangkakamkam san mga kayamanan san Pilipinas, hinatagan sin kusog sin buot si Dr. Jose Rizal san Diyos para ibulgar sa paagui san libro na Noli Me Tangere nan El Filibusterismo an mga maraot na himo san mga Kastila na puro taliwas sa Doktrina san Kristianismo na dinara nira. Para pagtakpan an kanira mga abuso sa publiko, pinatay nira si Dr Jose Rizal nan pinaniwala an mga tawo na si Dr. Jose Rizal diri naniwala sa Diyos. An pagkamatay ni Rizal an nagbukas sa isip san mga Pilipino na naging mitsa san rebolusyon.  Lunaban sira maski sundang an armas kontra sa kanyon san mga Kastila.

                 SUGAD man kon Rizal, isinakripisyo man an buhay ni Moises Padilla para mahatagan sin leksyon an sayo na abusado na gobernador.  Marauton an pagkamatay ni Padilla dahil sa kagustuhan san gobernador, ipinahila siya sa jeep na nakagapos an mga kamot hanggan mamatay. LET US BUILD LEADERS OF TOMORROW

                ALTHOUGH Bulusan is among the smaller towns in the Province of Sorsogon, it has many wonderful contributions to be proud of which other towns are deprived of. Aside from its various natural tourist attractions which are the envy of others, it is also home to bright and talented people.

                Most Sorsogueños especially the younger generations are not aware of the fact that this little community along the Pacific coast had contributed more noted personalities both in national and provincial public offices and in different fields of endeavor than other municipalities in the province.

                The first Sorsogueño to become a cabinet member was a Buluseño, the late Dr. Jose S. Reyes, (Ph. D.), who was the executive secretary to then President Sergio Osmeña, Sr. He was also a delegate to the 1935 Constitutional Convention.

                While other bigger towns has not yet produced a governor, two provincial governors of Sorsogon were Buluseños: the late Juan S. Reyes, Sr. who also became a congressman, and Atty. Augusto G. Ortiz who was also a delegate to the Interim Batasan Pambansa during the term of then President Marcos.

                The late Pedro S. Reyes was another Buluseño who became the first Sorsogueño to become the General Manager of then Manila International Airport.

                During the fifties and sixties, two Buluseño legal luminaries were lording it over in court battles in the province. They were the late Atty. Dominador S. Reyes and Atty. Leon Gajo, with the latter later appointed Fiscal in Aklan where he died.

                While some other towns have their own one-star generals, Bulusan has a two-star general to boast of in the person of Ret. Maj. Gen. Cesar F. Fortuno.

                During the times when high school students from different towns had to enroll at the Sorsogon Provincial High School, Buluseños were among those in the top honors in their class. In fact, there was a time when both the valedictorian and the salutatorian in the graduation ceremonies were both Buluseños.

                In 1996, two Buluseño students simultaneously graduated with highest honors in Philosophy from two different schools in Quezon City.

                Lorejames Aguilar who was a scholar of the Benigno Aquino Foundation was Summa Cum Laude at the Ateneo de Manila and was chosen as one of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP). After having finished law as a scholar at Harvard University at age 30, he is now taking his Doctorate degree courtesy of the World Bank while teaching law as a part time job at the same school.

                Rex F. Fortes who was a consistent valedictorian in his elementary and high school days got the same honors at the St. Vincent Seminary. He is now the assistant parish priest at the St. Vincent de Paul Parish in San Marcelino, Ermita, Manila.

                There are many others who also excel in their respective professions both in public and private offices and in the business community. To mention them all would occupy a very lengthy space.

                These very inspiring revelations prompted Mr. Rogelio F. Fuentes, then the newly installed president of Damayan-Buluseño, Inc. in 1982 to push for the creation of the Scholarship Through Sponsorship Program to give opportunity to talented children of poor families to obtain college education.

                With one scholar to start with in 1983, the association has already produced 27 professionals in different courses who are now stable in their jobs. Some of them also had sponsored their own scholars aside from supporting their younger siblings to college. Two more are expected to graduate soon.

                Three new scholars are currently enrolled in college this school year under the newly founded Damayan-Buluseño Foundation, Inc. which is under the umbrella of the association and which is chaired also by Mr. Fuentes.

                It is the cherished wish of Mr. Fuentes that more and more professionals would come from the ranks of the poor so they can be part in building a prosperous community in Bulusan. He believes that out of them, we can make dynamic leaders who are more dedicated to the service of our people.

                Mr. Fuentes therefore, appeals to fellow Buluseños who are also concerned for the future of our hometown to support the program by way of sponsoring a scholar in college or vocational courses.

                Let us join together and build leaders of tomorrow for the progress and prosperity of Bulusan, he said.

 DBI AFTER 22 YEARS

                After twenty-two years, Damayan-Buluseño, Inc. is still existing, very much alive and kicking, and the most active among Sorsogon’s town organizations based in Metro-Manila.

                It all started on August 5, 1981 when a group of Buluseños attended the mass at the Holy Trinity Church in Balic-Balic, Sampaloc, Manila sponsored by Mrs. Nena Gonzales-Fabic. Rev. Fr. Tony Pura, then the new parish priest of Bulusan, celebrated the mass in honor of St. James the Greater, the town’s patron saint.

                At the merienda y cena at Mrs. Fabic’s residence, the group decided to visit a young Buluseña housewife who was then detained at the Manila City Jail on a charge of parricide over the death of her husband.

                As a way of spiritual and moral support to her cause, the group offered to sponsor a monthly mass for her at the jail’s chapel which started on August 30 up to October of the same year when she was sentenced and transferred to the Correctional Institute for Women.

                But the monthly gathering did not end there. The group, which had already swelled, moved to the Manila Cathedral the following month and stayed there until December 1996. From January 1997 up to now the monthly mass still goes on at the Knights of Columbus Clubhouse just near the Manila Cathedral.

                In the first few months in 1981, the group was just an extended parish of St. James the Greater.  But upon the consensus of the majority, the following year, 1982, it became a duly SEC-registered association, Damayan-Buluseño, Inc. was born and the rest is history.

                Now, as he bows out at the end of this year as the association’s president in all those years, Mr. Rogelio F. Fuentes submits his report on its various spiritual, civic, social and humanitarian activities and projects undertaken and established for the Buluseños to know particularly the young generations.

                Here they are: 1.) MONTHLY SPIRITUAL GATHERING - Held every second Sunday of the month in honor of St. James the Greater whose 18-inch high image is enthroned at the altar.  This enhances the spiritual well-being of the Buluseños; 2.) REHABILITATION OF THE PARISH CENTER - Initiated the fundraising through solicitation after such was totally ravaged by a strong typhoon in 1981; 3.) BIENNIAL DAMAYAN HOMECOMING - A balik-bayan program that started in 1983 to encourage Buluseños from elsewhere to come home for a grand reunion; 4.) CIVIC ACTIONS - A yearly free medical/dental clinic & operation: tule which started in 1983, of which an average of 600 patients each year are benefited; 5.) DAMAYAN CHRISTMAS DRIVE - A yearly gift-giving of various foodstuffs and new/used clothes for the indigent families back home; 6.) PISTA SA MAYNILA - A yearly celebration in honor of the patron saint held on the second Sunday of July; 7.) CLEANEST BARANGAY CONTEST - Held in the early part of Damayan Homecoming to encourage local residents to maintain cleanliness in their barangay; 8.) CHRISTMAS PARTY - Held yearly on the second Sunday of December; 9.) MISS VALENTINE CONTEST - A social and fundraising activity of the association; 10.) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - To give opportunities to talented students from poor Buluseño families, DBI put up the Scholarship Through Sponsorship Program in 1983. To date, 27 scholars had already graduated in different courses in college, three of whom were cum laudes.  Through this program DBI had produced CPAs, engineers, a customs broker, an agriculturist, teachers, and other professionals; 11.) CREATION OF A FOUNDATION - To offer more scholarship slots, Damayan-Buluseño Foundation, Inc. was formed late last year. At present, three scholars in education and engineering are enrolled; 12.) YOUTH LEADERSHIP SEMINAR - To train the youths for community leadership, three seminars for this purpose were held. The first was in Manila with no less than Mrs. Eva Reyes - Buenaventura, then asst. principal at the Ateneo de Manila University, as resource speaker. The other two were held at the DILG Training Center in Los Baños, Laguna and in Barangay San Roque, Bulusan conducted by Mr. Tim Villanueva of the DILG; 13.) DANGEROUS DRUGS SEMINAR - The first to be sponsored by a town organization in the Bicol region, it was conducted in Bulusan in 1987 with two representatives from the Dangerous Drugs Board as resource speakers; 14.) DONATIONS OF BOOKS AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS - Recipients of these books and globes were the different public schools in Bulusan; 15.) DONATION OF A BETAMAX SET & EDUCATIONAL TAPES - Solicited by DBI from a generous Buluseño based abroad for the public schools in Bulusan; 16.) LIVELIHOOD FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE - The fund was intended for the livelihood projects of the flood victims in the mid-’80’s. 17.) DONATIONS OF 40 SACKS OF RICE & 10 CARTONS OF VARIOUS GOODS - These were distributed among the typhoon victims in the early ‘80s; 18.) DONATION OF WHEEL CHAIRS & CRUTCHES TO THE CRIPPLED AND DISABLED - solicited by the association from kindhearted Buluseños and friends for the use of Buluseños in need of such; 19.) SURGICAL OPERATIONS OF HARELIPPED AND CRIPPLED CHILDREN - With the representation of DBI, the successful surgery of twelve harelipped and three crippled children from Bulusan and other towns of Sorsogon and Jolo, Sulu, were made possible. 20.) EXTENDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO DISTRESSED BULUSEÑOS - This is done almost every month after the mass to Buluseños in dire need of help; 21.) PUBLICATION OF THE DAMAYAN-BULUSEÑO GAZETTE - This is the official newspaper of the association. Copies of which are distributed in Bulusan and among Buluseños in Metro-Manila. Some are sent to Buluseños elsewhere and to other municipalities of Sorsogon; and 22.) COMPOSITION OF HIMNO NG DAMAYAN-BULUSEÑO - This is the official hymn of the association and is sung before the commencement of a meeting or program. Every line of it best describes the sincere dedication of the members to the noble cause of the association.

                With all these meaningful projects and activities, Damayan-Buluseño, Inc. has become the most active town organization in the province of Sorsogon.

                To remain intact and active, Mr. Fuentes advised the new leadership to maintain the traditional activities established by the association like the monthly mass, yearly civic actions, Pista sa Maynila, Christmas Party and Damayan Christmas Drive, and the biennial celebration of Damayan Homecoming.

THE LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS

   In the last issue of the Gazette, the concept of eternity and eternal forces was discussed. We say  that eternity means no beginning and  no end and time is its moving image. Eternity, therefore moves in a cyclical pattern. Also mentioned are certain laws that could explain the various phenomena taking place all over the world. One such law is the Law of Thermodynamics.

    In physics, the Laws of Thermodynamics rank as a supreme law because of its wide range of applications - Cosmology, Metaphysics, Economics, History, Nuclear fission and to almost everything. It would be of great advantage therefore, to know briefly what these laws are and how it affects the state of the world.

    The first law of thermodynamics is the Law of Conservation. It states that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be transformed from one form to another.  For instance, in using petrol or gasoline to run our cars, some of it gets transformed into work, some into heat and others as exhaust or pollution.

    This first law considers two things. One is that the shape, texture and movement of everything is made up of energy. Not only gasoline, oil, coal, etc. but also human body, automobile, candle or anything at all that we see are various concentrations and transformations of energy.  When a candle or a car is made, it is made of energy that has been gathered from somewhere else.  It has not been created but transformed.  The second consideration is that when the candle or coal  is burnt, potential energy is transformed into kinetic energy. Its energy does not get destroyed but is transformed from one state to another so that the total content of energy in the universe remains constant. Hence, the saying “ there’s nothing new under the sun.”

    The second law of thermodynamics says that every time there’s movement, energy at a higher level is transformed into energy at a lower level, there’s a loss of the form of energy available to perform work. For example, if coal is burnt, the total amount of energy remains the same, but due to the process of burning, some part of coal is transformed into sulphur dioxide and other gases which are dissipated into the atmosphere. The part of the coal transformed into sulphur dioxide and exhausts cannot be reburnt (process is irreversible) to get the same work out of it. This kind of loss or wastage is called entropy. The second law or law of entropy explains that the total entropy in the world is constantly increasing, therefore a decrease in available or potential energy.

   Another aspect of the Law of Entropy is that all energy in an isolated or closed system (earth or the universe is a closed system) moves from an ordered to a disordered state. The state in which energy concentration is highest i.e. entropy is minimum, is also the most ordered state or pure state. In contrast, the disordered state is where available energy has been highly dissipated or impure state.

    Now, this has very great implication for the society.  It means that the society deteriorates and becomes disorganized gradually. There’s deterioration in its moral force, spiritual stamina, the effectiveness of its character and its religion and the sense of law and order. In Hindu Scriptures, it has been said that the moral and spiritual energy of society goes on degenerating so that, ultimately, it reaches a stage of maximum entropy. It is in this stage that God has to intervene to reverse the entropy and bring about a pure or Golden Age.  God’s act in such a situation is evident, because according to the Law of Entropy, in a closed system, entropy increase can not be reversed without increasing the entropy in the surroundings and therefore in real terms, an outside source of energy is required to raise the energy concentration without lowering the energy level in the surroundings.      

     The only “force” left to carry this out is God, the only being who never loses His intrinsic energy, who never passes through the process of entropy, who is forever “Almighty.”

                I would like to express my sincere gratitude, admiration and appreciation to Mr. Rogelio Fuentes, president of Damayan-Buluseño, Inc. for all that he has done to me and other fellow Buluseños.  If every Buluseño would have a fraction of how compassionate he is, we would be very progressive by now.

                Likewise, I would like to extend my apology for my inadequacies as one of the beneficiaries of the association.  God knows how much I wanted to help but I could not due to my situation then which I know Mr. Fuentes understands.

                Next school year, 2005-2006, I am volunteering/pledging support to one scholar of DBI. Bagaman napierde siya, sa mata san Mahal na Diyos nan mga tawo na may prinsipyo, mas may dignidad nan mas honorable siya kesa sa mga nakapuesto na pinaagui sa puersa nan kuarta an panggana. An totoo, an publiko an nawaraan sin tunay na serbisyo na mas pakinabangan nira.

                Dapat iluwas man san iba an kaniraa mga sentimyento kontra sa maati-on na pulitika nan iba na mga abuso na nakapahababaon san moralidad san ato mga kabubungto para makonsensya an mga tinatamaan.
